Many of our projects feature down-lighting as a way to address concerns with light pollution. A properly designed lighting system takes into account all of those factors (wildlife, stars, etc).
We are often correcting existing lighting systems that do not consider light pollution (such as an un-shrouded post light in a front yard). We are members of the International Dark-Sky Association and use those principles to light homes. When up-lighting a facade we are lighting with shrouded fixtures that only cast light on the facade itself (not broadcast it directly into the sky). Excessive light level, poorly planned light placement, and un-shrouded fixtures are the main contributors to light pollution.
